Important guest information about staying at Cliffhanger and Jacaranda
Welcome to Tenerife and welcome to the Cliffhanger or the Jacaranda.
I am looking forward to your visit and wish you a pleasant stay in advance. I hope you had a pleasant journey and could already marvel at Tenerife from above in good weather. Looks very good, doesn't it?
For the rest of the journey from the airport to the north of Tenerife and to the small town of Tacoronte, the check-in process as well as tips for your stay in the apartment, I have prepared the following information. Further information about the sights, suggestions for hiking tours and other activities as well as the shopping possibilities I have provided on separate pages under the menu Guest Information. This page is part of my travel blog Kanarenvogel, where you can read a lot more information about Tenerife and the sights. I describe my own tours and impressions of the island as well as reports about people and cultural events. You can also find these as a video post on my YouTube Kanal of the same name. So far, the blog is in German but many of the videos speak for themselves.

Communication with the host
For communication after a booking, as well as for quick exchange of information, we can exchange via WhatsApp or alternatively, via Signal. For this we exchange phone numbers after a booking. I then inform the guests about the details and exact address of the apartments. In urgent matters or emergencies, I ask for a call instead of sending a message, because I do not have the phone in front of my eyes all the time.
Arrival at the airport South (TFS)
Usually, you get to the baggage terminal fairly quickly. Occasionally, however, it takes a little longer for the luggage to roll off the conveyor belt. The Canary Islands are tax-exempt and do not belong to the European Customs Union. Therefore, you can still shop duty-free after arriving at the airport.
One option is not to continue towards the exit after the long escalator, but to go back to the left in the airport building, where you will find the large duty free store, which offers a very large selection of ever-popular goods. If this is not possible, after passing through the barrier to the baggage terminal (arrivals hall), you can buy duty free goods in a small duty free on the left. The selection is limited but alcoholic beverages are cheap to get there.
The car rentals are across from the exit. Occasionally there is a queue until you get your car. Once you have it, drive to the freeway and there on TF 1 towards Santa Cruz. Beware of speed cameras - just before the hill climb at Punta Prieta a fixed device! Then follow the signs La Laguna / Airport Tenerife North until you are on the TF 5 and take the exit 19 to Tacoronte.
Follow the TF 16 through Tacoronte in the direction of San Juan / Valle de Guerra. After the San Juan town sign, you will see a large Canary Island palm tree on your left and the Mesa del Mar sign. Turn left there into Calle Medico Ernesto Castro. It now goes steeply down the hill. You will receive further details on how to get there after booking.
Arrival at the airport North (TFN):
The Canary Islands are tax exempt and are not part of the European Customs Union. Therefore, you can still shop duty-free after arriving at the airport.
The car rental agencies are just across the exit. Drive to the highway and there in the direction of Puerto de la Cruz on the TF 5. Exit 19 - Tacoronte.
Go through Tacoronte on TF 16 in the direction of San Juan / Valle de Guerra. After the San Juan town sign, you will see a large Canary Island palm tree on your left as well as the Mesa del Mar sign. Turn left there into Calle Medico Ernesto Castro. It now goes steeply down the hill. You will receive further details on how to get there after booking.
Arrival
Please inform me for your arrival already after booking, but especially after arrival at the airport:
Where are you arriving? South (TFS) or North (TFN) airport. With which airline?
What time will you arrive?
Do you rent a car?
Are you going directly to the apartment or do you want to do something before? Check-in from 15:00. If there were no guests before, earlier if necessary.
The drive from TFS to Tacoronte takes about 1 hour if there is no traffic jam on the TF 5 highway. The drive from TFN to Tacoronte takes about 15 minutes.
Important note for the journey home: During morning (08:30-10:00) and evening (17:30-18:30) business traffic, expect congestion to the highway and on the highway. Keep this in mind when planning your trip. Allow 30-60 minutes extra time.
Please send me a message each time after arriving at the airport, when leaving by car, and about 15 minutes before arriving on site.
This is so that I can organize myself for the day and meet you personally if possible. In case of very late arrival, or if I am prevented, you can get into the apartment at Cliffhanger 24h via a self-check. You will receive information about this as needed. At the Jacaranda currently only a personal check-in is possible.
Drive from the airport to Tacoronte and enter the address you will receive after booking.

If you want to go shopping on the way, I recommend the supermarkets LIDL, ALDI or Mercadona in Tacoronte North / Los Naranjeros.
More info on the page Shopping.
Check in
At Jacaranda we welcome you personally. Therefore, it is important that we know your arrival time. Due to possible traffic congestion, we therefore ask for notifications as indicated above. For the cliffhanger the same applies, unless you use the self check-in process. Then please send me a message after successful check-in so I can sleep peacefully.
Parking is available on the public street. There are two parking spaces at the Cliffhanger right next to the wall at the entrance. If these are occupied, look for a free space on the street. For Jacaranda there are enough spaces in the street.
House rules
Please pay attention to the house rules. There are not many and in principle generally valid rules of conduct, or care in dealing with an apartment.
Handling the furnishings and behavior in case of damage
Please handle the furnishings with care. We have tried to furnish the apartments with high quality and to use valuable, decorative objects. It can happen that something is damaged and if it is nothing major, it is quickly replaced. In case of major damage we rely on your liability insurance, which I am sure you have. If something gets damaged, please let me know immediately so that I can repair the damage in time before the next guests arrive. Nothing is more unpleasant and disappointing for guests than when something does not work. There is usually not a lot of time to respond between a change of guests, so I want to repair or replace this promptly. If a plate or glass breaks, it can happen, please leave €5 per item so I can get equivalent replacements in the same style.
Cautions due to high winds
Please crank up the awning in the cliffhanger and close all windows when you leave the apartment. Make sure you have adequate ventilation - we are in the subtropics and the humidity can quickly lead to mold otherwise. In Jacarnda, please leave the window open in the living room and bathroom.
Garbage disposal and recycling
On site, household waste (residual waste) , glass, plastic and paper are separated and disposed of in appropriate containers. These are located along the street.
Green for glass, blue for paper, yellow for plastic and aluminum cans. Residual waste goes into the green, wheeled plastic containers. One is located at the end of the street of the cliffhanger. For Jacaranda, there are even all garbage cans at the end of the street.
Please dispose of trash when you leave. You can give us usable food, the next guests will be happy.
Hygiene in the bathroom
As in many places in the Canary Islands, we are not connected to a sewage system. The waste water ends up in so called pozo negros and seeps into the rocks. To avoid blockages, please dispose of toilet paper in the toilet waste garbage can and do not dispose of any other objects in the toilet. If possible, please do not pour sand from the beach into the shower.
Departure
Every vacation comes to an end. I hope you had a pleasant stay and everything was to your satisfaction. Feel free to let me know if there is anything to improve. If I can't see you off personally, please leave the keys in the apartment in the cliffhanger. Pull the front gate tightly shut.
Emergencies
In case of emergency, you can always contact me by phone on my Spanish phone number or by WhatsApp.
The general emergency number is 112 where they will connect you directly to the police, emergency doctor or fire department. In Puerto de la Cruz there are many German speaking doctors.
In medical emergencies you can go directly to the emergency room (urgencias) of a clinic. One of them is the Hospital Universitario Hospiten Bellevue (English language version) in Puerto de la Cruz. It has several locations in other cities as well. All telephone numbers are on the website. Appointments can be made in advance by phone.
Hospital Universitario Hospiten Bellevue
C/ Alemania, 6.
38400 Puerto de La Cruz
In case of emergency, go directly there, go through the registration process at the entrance and wait for a consultation and treatment by the doctors.
In less urgent cases, but for specialized concerns, you can go to a private clinic in Tacoronte: Clinica Tara.
Calle Casas Altas S/N
Tacoronte (El Cantillo)- Tenerife
Teléfono: 922 56 33 51.
Everywhere you have to pay the bill yourself first and settle it at home. In case of emergency, the European insurance card is accepted in the hospital, so that you do not have to pay anything in advance. As with all trips abroad, it is advisable to take out an international health insurance policy that also covers repatriation.
